Was that cool, or what?

The Open Mike was a great success! We had a full slate of performers, some new and some returning. Also new to this Open Mike was Gerry Clark, who did a great job as the MC.

Winners at this Open Mike were:

Ann Lloyd in poetry
Ruthann Fecteau in true stories
Angie Gallop in fiction
and
Wayne Nott in songwriting

Wayne very generously played all night between sets to create a fun atmosphere. He’s an excellent singer and songwriter, and a newcomer to the Open Mike crowd.

Pictures will be going up as soon as I get them!

The next Open Mike will be held on October 1st, 2011. Book your space soon – we fill up quickly!

Strut your stuff for fifty bucks! Open Mike on March 4th, 2011

Stories in the North is having its second Open Mike Night  on March 4th. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

What’s on? Well, that depends on who signs up to perform. This is the time for all you closet divas – and whatever the male of “diva” is – to come out and wow the crowd.

The last Open Mike brought sixteen area performers to the Legion in Thessalon to recite and read poetry, fiction and non-fiction, and to sing songs that they’d written.

This year we have the same four categories – fiction, non-fiction, poetry and songwriting. Each entrant gets up to five minutes to impress the audience with their original work.

At the end of the evening, the audience votes. The winner in each category walks away with bragging rights and fifty dollars. Did we say you couldn’t pack the hall with your friends? No, not us! Go for it!

We’ll provide coffee and snacks. (We’re not the home baking literary festival for nothing!) Tickets are $7.00 each.

Entry fee is $5.00. To register, call Elizabeth at 842-3817.
